weekly report
What I have been reading, eating, playing, obsessing, recommending and trying this week
Monday 23rd June - Sunday 29th June
Reading
This week I started To The Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf and so far all I can comment is I think it is beautifully written and I am going to enjoy its company.
Eating
I took myself on a coffee date after the gym one day this week and tried a cafe that I haven’t been to. Whilst all I had sat in the cafe was an oat latte, they had a selection of deli treats on display and I did have a peruse once my coffee was well and truly finished and bought myself some dried mango 🥭 . I had forgotten how delicious dried fruit can be and dried mango in particular has fallen into my basket on more than one occasion since.
Playing
My tv watching habits have been rather out of the ordinary this week, as I realised in conversation with a co-worker that I don’t (and haven’t ever) follow any live sports and thought I ought to try my hand at a few. I landed on the F1 as my starting point (shout out nan); started out with the first season of Drive to Survive which covers the 2018 season and then I dabbled in this years’ Austrian Grand Prix whilst it was playing live over the weekend. I was only able to watch snippets live but I think it is a sport I could see myself getting into so for future writing reference… this marks the week it all went down hill.
Obsessing
I recently (accidentally) killed my aloe vera plant 🙈. Which, whilst upsetting, did give me a chance to check out a houseplant shop down the road from me. I’ve known about the store for a while but knew it’d cause my downfall if I ventured in, I’d have to buy something. This time I had an excuse. So, off to Bud I went and now I am the proud owner of a brand new baby aloe vera - which hopefully won’t follow the same fate as it’s predecessor.
Recommending
I will always recommend The Bear on Netflix as an essential watch tv programme and its’ new season came out this week so it has flown back onto my radar. I loved the last season (s3) in particular and this new season sports some incredible camera work/ cinematography that puts it in a very close second position. I haven’t yet finished all of the episodes but I can already feel it building up to an emotional resolution - I will stockpile tissues just in case.
Trying
The most exciting thing I can think of for this week is I tried a new bread recipe and although it was tasty, it went mouldy a lot quicker than my last loaf (a real head scratching scenario), so actually it isn’t a terrific spotlight to cast and instead I am going to - briefly - shout out crochet again. I made some new bits this week and am particularly proud of my hair scrunchie making abilities. 🧶✨
