weekly report
what I have been reading, eating, playing, obsessing, recommending and trying this week
Monday 30th June - Sunday 6th July
Reading
It has been a guilty pleasure reading week so far in July; I’ve managed to read three (and half way through the fourth) romance books and whilst none of them have been noteworthy nor particularly good, they scratched an itch that my current reads weren’t reaching. That itch being pure mind-numbing escapism and illiteracy. I would rate none of them higher than a 2.5 or 3 (at a stretch) stars but they have boosted my book stats for the year when otherwise I wouldn’t have read anything.
A bonus book-related anecdote for this week is that I have joined a bookclub (!!!) so hopefully that will make following week’s reports more interesting to review (for me) and read (for you) 📚
Eating
I took myself on a solo date this week and ended up in a cafe I hadn’t been to before, albeit just for a quick iced coffee interlude on an otherwise rather hectic errand-running day. Very tasty coffee, bonus points for a non-oatly oat milk and a funky atmosphere. Would recommend (getting ahead of myself section wise) @ Minerva Plymouth.
Playing
I am fully caught up on the most recent season of Taskmaster now and I must say recent years lineups haven’t been my favourite, so this year takes the cake. It may even be my new no.1 cast but that isn’t surprising news seeing how well this season has been rated by others.
Obsessing
As always, the British weather has been truly unpredictable recently. Would you call it a heatwave? Not quite. But we have had some lovely (sometimes unbearable) hot days (usually followed by about 48hrs of intermittent rain but we won’t dwell on that). So my recommendation is getting out in it. Especially if you live somewhere like myself - hashtag south west coast - where there is no telling how long it will last. I now sport a rather embarrassing watch-shaped tan line but at least it’s proof I spent some time in the sun.
Recommending
Charity shops for craft supplies. Boom 💥. That’s it.
Trying
Jumping on the hot weather train and utilising some of that sport-season motivation I have found myself buying rackets and green balls and hiring courts to give tennis a go. Four hours down this week and still equally as terrible as before but I am having fun and (I think) that is what counts.
Until next time - and hopefully not a day late again 😅
