weekly report
what I have been reading, eating, playing, obsessing, recommending and trying this week
Monday 16th June - Sunday 22nd June
Reading
I finished The Bell Jar this week and I wish I hadn’t been so stubborn in starting it. I get that way about certain books that are highly recommended because people tend to follow the crowd so it’s hard to gauge whether you’re actually interested in the book or just reading it for the sake of reading it. The Bell Jar falls within the former category and I am glad i finally put my preconceptions aside to read it. It is my second five-star rating of the year so far (the first being We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson) and it is the kind of book I would gladly read again.
Eating
I tried the new squeaky bean bacon strips from Sainsburys and oh me oh my they are tasty.
Playing
Finally got around to watching the new season of Clarkson’s Farm and whilst I don’t agree with everything the man says, the show as its own entity can be rather wholesome and offers an interesting insight into farming that (as a vegan) I tend to stay away from.
Obsessing
We had a bit of a heatwave this week so my days off were spent on the beach and I must say there is something about losing a few hours by the ocean that elicits a childlike euphoria 🐚. I managed to get to one beach at a particularly low-tide time and spent a while looking in rock pools; managed to find lots of tiny crabs but my phone camera is shockingly bad so sadly I have nothing to show for it besides pictures of the beach itself.

Recommending
I tried Saltd cafe in Newquay for the first time this week and for one they used paper straws with bees on so they were quick to get into my good books but also the cafe itself was gorgeous and my coffee was delicious.

Trying
I am trying to use up all the skeins of yarn I have before I buy anymore and I found the sweetest pattern for a crochet bandana, so I made a few this week whilst relaxing in the sun (although i’m not sure you can class sweating in 27º degree heat relaxing).
